Interwall conduction in multiwall carbon nanotubes |
In multiwal carbon nanotubes, atomic arrangement of each wall is incomensurate with the others. Thus the system becomes quasi-periodic as a whole. We developed an exact numerical method to calculate interwall electrinc conduction of these complex multiwall carbon nanotubes. In the absence of impurities, interwall conduction is negligiblly small while in the presence of impurities, the interwall conduction increases due to the impurities.

Dependence of interwall conductance of various double-wall metallic nanotubes on the tube length. The unit of the tube length is an averaged length over which electrons are scattered once from impurities. In a short length region, the conductance increases in proportion to the tube length.
